1. French Leasebacks - Read the Small Print

If you read my comments in the UK Sunday Times this week you will know that I am very critical of the misleading propaganda about the French leaseback offers being put out by some Internet Sites, publishers and estate agents.

The key word is "investment" - a leaseback property sold under the French scheme should be thought of as just this and considered in exactly the same way as stocks, shares or bonds.

A lot of the publicity claims that the French leaseback plans are a good way to buy a property in France which you can use yourself, or live in yourself after the first 9 year lease. At best this sort of statement is misleading and at worst it is criminally deceiving.

3. Jazz on a Midsummers Eve

The film "Jazz on a Summer Day", the opening shots of light reflecting on the water, Chuck Berry - the whole Woodstock thing.

This week in Nizas, the Jazz capital of Southern France, we had a Hendrix revival on Midsummers Eve, photos on...

Midsummer Jazz

Talking about Woodstock, two of my colleagues are named "Kevin" so to keep it simple we have borrowed names from the "Peanuts" cartoon characters. The technical Kevin is (obviously) Linus and the management Kevin is Woodstock - I am Charlie Brown ! So don't ask me to play baseball.

4. Your Right To Work in France

I often get mail about working in France, or employing people, usually for building work - this week I have had this exchange of mails from a UK solicitor.

Tony
I read with interest, the section on capital gains tax in your newsletter. It seems to me that to disallow invoices simply because they are not written in French and because the work was carried out by an Englishman is contrary to European law.
